AI-Driven Social Engineering Fuels Rise in Crypto Scams

Solana Foundation's Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) Michael Coates has sounded an alarm about the growing threat of AI-driven social engineering in cryptocurrency scams.

The CISO warned that AI is making it easier for attackers to create convincing messages, voices, and identities, which can be used to trick users into divulging sensitive information or signing malicious transactions.

This is not a flaw in Solana's blockchain or smart contracts, but rather the way attackers are targeting people through phishing, impersonation, and voice deepfakes.

Crypto security has traditionally focused on code vulnerabilities, but Coates emphasized that the user is now a critical target. AI makes it easier for attackers to produce realistic content, adapt scripts to specific victims, and operate at larger scales.
