Charles Edwards, founder of Capriole Investments, has warned that artificial intelligence (AI) may pose a bigger threat to decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols than Bitcoin. In an interview, Edwards highlighted the vulnerability of smart contract-based platforms to AI-driven attacks.

Edwards pointed out that the AI model known as 'Mythos' had successfully bypassed multiple layers of security safeguards in conventional computing environments. He argued that similar incidents could occur across many DeFi protocols, which often rely on complex, interconnected smart contracts.

The frequency of DeFi hacks has increased significantly over the past 12 months, according to Edwards. These incidents have weighed on the broader crypto industry's reputation and user confidence. While Bitcoin's relatively simpler codebase and proof-of-work consensus may offer some inherent protection, DeFi platforms face a more diverse and evolving threat landscape.

Edwards also noted that massive capital inflows into the AI sector are drawing funds away from cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin. This shift in capital allocation could dampen price momentum and reduce liquidity in digital asset markets.
