The shutdown took effect on August 3, 2026. Boltz enabled atomic swaps between Bitcoin mainchain, Lightning Network, and Liquid sidechain, making it essential for wallets like Aqua and Bull Bitcoin to offer their users Lightning and Liquid functionality.

Aqua and Bull Bitcoin are now scrambling to find alternative providers as a result of the shutdown, which was prompted by AI-assisted attacks that exploited vulnerabilities in Boltz's infrastructure faster than its team could fix them.
