AI-Pumpability in Bitcoin Mining Stocks Loses Steam
The excitement around AI-pumpability in Bitcoin mining stocks has started to wane. A recent analysis by TheEnergyMag shows that, despite more frequent and larger deals being announced, the market's reaction is no longer as enthusiastic.
A comparison of 25 AI and high-performance-computing infrastructure announcements from June 2024 through Aug. 4, 2026 found that, while the number and size of deals are increasing, their impact on stock prices is diminishing. The best-fit absolute announcement-day move fell from 32.5% at the start of the period to 6.3% at the end.
Furthermore, the median revenue per contracted megawatt for colocation and build-to-suit leases increased modestly from $1.67 million to $1.90 million during this time. This suggests that the industry is signing more large deals, but investors have developed a longer checklist for deciding which ones deserve a rerating.
Investors are now scrutinizing details such as who the tenant is, whether there's an investment-grade backstop, and what happens if construction slips. The sector has moved from a time when access to power and an AI press release were enough to create excitement around AI-pumpability.
