AI Shift Pays Off for Bitcoin Miners, But Rebound in Prices Could Change Calculus
Bitcoin miners who shifted their operations to focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC) have seen stronger stock valuations and revenue prospects compared to those solely focused on bitcoin mining. This shift was in response to the decline in bitcoin prices, which has squeezed pure-play miners, causing many to reduce operations.
The AI/HPC-focused miners trade at roughly twice the enterprise value of pure bitcoin miners, reflecting investor confidence in stable, long-term AI contracts. However, if bitcoin prices return to previous highs, mining economics could improve, potentially reviving pure-play mining profitability.
