Airway Heights Bans Cryptocurrency Kiosks Over Scam Concerns
City officials in Airway Heights have banned cryptocurrency kiosks after concerns about scams and financial losses.
The ban, approved by the City Council on July 6, requires businesses with existing kiosks to remove them within 60 days.
Cryptocurrency kiosks resemble ATMs and allow users to buy or conduct transactions involving digital currencies. However, city officials raised concerns that scammers can direct victims to these machines and convince them to transfer money that is difficult or impossible to recover.
According to FBI data shared by the Police Department, state residents lost approximately $8 million last year to scams involving cryptocurrency kiosks.
