Akash's Compute Spend Record Masks AKT Token Value Capture Woes

Akash Network has set a record for its first quarter of 2026 with $5 million in compute spend, routing 1.7 billion AI inference tokens daily through OpenRouter.

This milestone demonstrates real demand for decentralized GPU rental, but the token AKT fails to capture value, trading at around 94% below its 2021 high of $8.07.

The Burn-Mint Equilibrium (BME) mechanism aims to close the loop between demand and value by burning AKT as compute is consumed and minting fresh AKT to pay providers.

However, Akash's Q1 report does not disclose how much AKT was burned during this period, leaving the effectiveness of BME unproven.
