Alaska Pension Fund Accidentally Owns Indirect Exposure to $1.3 Billion in Bitcoin
The Alaska Retirement Management Board (ARMB), which manages retirement assets for around 100,000 state employees and beneficiaries, has quietly acquired indirect exposure to Bitcoin. ARMB disclosed a holding of 19,804 Class A shares of Strive Inc. in its latest quarterly filing.
Strive trades on the Nasdaq under the ticker ASST and operates as a Bitcoin treasury company, with its balance sheet built around holding Bitcoin rather than generating revenue. The position is modest in absolute dollar terms, valued at $216,000 as of Q2 2026, up from $198,000 the prior quarter.
For context, ARMB's total assets are roughly $46 billion, with the Strive stake making up approximately 0.0005% of the portfolio. The holding is inside a roughly $10 billion passive equity sleeve and functions as an incidental exposure rather than a deliberate Bitcoin bet.
The fund has no direct allocation to crypto assets, and board discussions about digital currencies have historically stopped short of a formal position. ARMB owns Strive through a passive index vehicle, meaning the fund didn't make an active decision to buy Bitcoin-adjacent equity.
