Alderoty Urges Senators to Meet with Crypto Holders Ahead of CLARITY Act Vote
Ripple's Chief Legal Officer Stuart Alderoty has called on undecided and opposing senators to meet American crypto holders before the Senate vote on the CLARITY Act on September 15. The act would establish a federal regulatory framework for digital assets, dividing responsibilities between the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
The CLARITY Act requires at least seven Democrats or independents to pass, with Republicans holding 53 seats. However, some Republicans are concerned about presidential ethics, stablecoin incentives, and decentralized finance developer protections.
Alderoty estimates that 67 million Americans own crypto, a figure cited from the National Cryptocurrency Association. He argues that senators should meet with holders to understand how federal rules could affect their assets and market access.
