Algorand 5.0 Boosts Blockchain Security with Post-Quantum Signatures
Algorand has launched its 5.0 upgrade, marking a significant step forward in blockchain security and scalability.
The highlight of this upgrade is native support for post-quantum signatures using Falcon-1024, a lattice-based cryptographic scheme designed to withstand attacks from quantum computers.
This feature is crucial as traditional cryptographic methods like Curve Ed25519 may become vulnerable with the advancement of quantum computing.
Falcon-1024 has already been supported in Algorand's LogicSig accounts since late 2025, and now integrates directly into the protocol, eliminating previous limitations that hindered DeFi composability when multiple transactions were required for verification.
