Algorand Takes Quantum Security Lead Over XRP
Quantum computing poses a long-term security threat to blockchain networks, including XRP and Algorand. Current quantum computers are not powerful enough to break the cryptographic protections used by these networks.
However, as quantum computers become more advanced, they could potentially use algorithms like Shor's algorithm to attack public-key cryptographic systems. This would require significant upgrades to existing blockchain infrastructure.
Algorand has made post-quantum security a priority and aims to achieve broad quantum resilience by the end of 2027. The network is already using native post-quantum accounts and Falcon-based signatures, which are designed to remain secure against both classical and quantum computers.
XRP, on the other hand, has not yet announced any specific milestones or timelines for implementing post-quantum security measures. While XRP Ledger currently relies on conventional cryptographic signatures, it would require upgrades if quantum computers become capable of defeating those systems.
