Algorand v5.0.0 Upgrade Boosts Quantum Security and Developer Tools
Algorand's highly anticipated v5.0.0 upgrade has been released, marking a significant step forward in blockchain scalability, security, and developer functionality.
The update introduces native support for quantum-resilient Falcon-1024 accounts, eliminating the need for a LogicSig wrapper. This feature builds on Algorand’s first quantum-resilient mainnet transaction in 2025 and further solidifies its efforts to future-proof its security architecture.
Another major addition is resource-based transaction fees, replacing the previous flat-rate system. Fees now scale according to transaction complexity and data size, which are redirected to fund node operator payouts.
Developers gain a suite of new tools with smart contracts that can handle up to double the code size, share storage between applications, and upgrade in place without rebuilding. New opcodes also enable zero-knowledge proof development, while a congestion signal feature offers early insights into network health.
