Algorand's HesabPay Surpasses 1 Million Users Amidst Humanitarian Aid Efforts
HesabPay, an Afghan digital payments platform built on the Algorand blockchain, has reached over 1 million unique users and wallets. The growth is a significant milestone in real-world adoption for cryptocurrency, especially considering HesabPay's humble beginnings with just a few thousand users.
The platform offers peer-to-peer transfers, bill payments, and merchant transactions using USSD access and QR cards, which cater to the needs of its market. This includes people without smartphones who can still transact.
HesabPay has facilitated aid distribution for over 625,000 refugee returnees and 17,500 internally displaced persons, channeling more than $35 million in UNHCR assistance across Afghanistan. The platform also works with the World Food Programme.
