Alpen Labs' Strata Bridge Stress-Tested on Testnet III
Alpen Labs has launched its Testnet III, a testing environment built on Bitcoin Signet that is designed to stress-test the Strata bridge infrastructure. The Strata bridge uses a 1-of-N trust model, which requires only one honest operator in the entire operator set for the bridge to remain secure.
This approach is a significant departure from traditional multi-sig bridges, which require a majority of operators to remain honest. Alpen Labs' testnet has already attracted more than 21 integration partners, including Stakely and Chainflow, who are live participants on Testnet III.
The Strata bridge also features the first publicly usable garbled circuit-based Bitcoin verifier, a novel cryptographic approach that enables stronger privacy and security guarantees. This is made possible by Alpen Labs' hybrid optimistic-ZK approach, which combines the efficiency of optimistic rollup assumptions with zero-knowledge proofs for finality guarantees.
The ultimate goal of Alpen Labs is to create a Bitcoin-native DeFi ecosystem, where users can lend, borrow, and mint stablecoins without bridging assets off Bitcoin or trusting wrapped token intermediaries. The company has already partnered with Liquity to develop a BTC-backed stablecoin called Bitcoin Dollar (BTD), which will operate natively within Bitcoin's ecosystem.
