Alpen Labs Unleashes Testnet III for Secure Bitcoin DeFi Infrastructure
Alpen Labs has launched Testnet III, a significant milestone in its quest to bring DeFi infrastructure directly to Bitcoin's base layer.
The testnet is home to over 21 integration partners, including bridge operators Stakely and Chainflow, who are stress-testing the Strata bridge. This innovative technology connects Bitcoin to its execution environment and uses a 1-of-N trust model, which requires only one honest operator for the bridge to remain secure.
The Strata bridge also features a garbled circuit-based Bitcoin verifier, enabling stronger privacy and security guarantees than traditional verification methods. Alpen's verification layer combines optimistic-ZK approach with zero-knowledge proofs for finality guarantees, drawing from research conducted by the BitVM2 initiative.
The ultimate goal of Alpen Labs is to create Bitcoin-native DeFi products, such as lending, borrowing, and stablecoin minting, without relying on bridging assets or wrapped token intermediaries. The company's most commercially visible product is the Bitcoin Dollar (BTD) stablecoin, being developed in partnership with Liquity.
