Alphabet Unleashes $25 Billion Bond Sale to Fuel AI Ambitions
Alphabet is launching a massive bond sale to raise up to $25 billion, as part of its aggressive expansion into artificial intelligence (AI). The tech giant plans to spend between $175 and $185 billion on capital expenditures in 2026, more than double the prior year's figure. This significant investment will fuel Alphabet's AI ambitions, which are expected to drive growth in the coming years.
The bond sale includes $17.5 billion in US notes and approximately €6.5 billion (about $7.48 billion) in European debt, spanning maturities from 3 to 50 years. Investor demand for these tech bonds has remained remarkably strong, with offerings often oversubscribed by multiple times.
Alphabet's AI spending spree is not unique; fellow tech giants Meta and Nvidia are also investing heavily in this area. In fact, Nvidia recently tapped markets for $25 billion to fund its own AI investments. This trend highlights the growing importance of AI in the tech industry and the significant resources being devoted to its development.
Interestingly, Alphabet has also invested approximately $1.5 billion in blockchain-related companies since 2021-2022. While these investments are not tied to this particular bond sale, they suggest that the company sees digital asset infrastructure as relevant to its broader technology strategy.
