Altcoin DATs Take Center Stage as Capital Rotates Away from Bitcoin and Ethereum
The crypto market has seen a surge in Digital Asset Treasuries (DATs), which have increased by 10% since mid-August, reaching around $340 billion. This growth is more pronounced than the overall crypto market's 22% increase in the same period.
Newer altcoin DATs are significantly outperforming their traditional counterparts, with some rising by as much as 142%. The most notable examples include PURR and CYPH, which have seen returns of 62% and 142%, respectively. Their underlying tokens, HYPE and ZEC, have also done well, increasing by 36% and 56%.
This trend is attributed to the evolving altcoin DAT model, where companies are not only holding onto their assets but also engaging in activities that generate returns beyond token price changes. For instance, Ethereum DATs can stake ETH, while PURR operates a Hyperliquid validator.
