Altcoin Frenzy: Institutional Investors Bet Big on Solana and XRP
The cryptocurrency market has taken a hit due to recent global events. The US attack on Iranian targets near the Strait of Hormuz and a surge in oil prices have increased investor anxiety, making risky assets like Bitcoin less attractive.
Bitcoin's price has fallen to around $76,500, a 2% drop in the last 24 hours. This decline has also affected altcoins, with Ethereum dropping by 3%, and XRP and Solana falling by 4%. However, despite the downturn, institutional investors are showing interest in certain altcoins.
Wintermute, a prominent market maker in the cryptocurrency space, reported that large investors are quietly buying Solana and XRP. The company noted that fund inflows into Solana and XRP-focused ETFs are expected to reach record levels in 2026, with $154 million and $110 million respectively being invested.
Wintermute views this trend as institutional investors taking positions in altcoins where they see higher return potential following Bitcoin's strong rally. The company believes that the crypto market has shown unexpected macroeconomic resilience, absorbing the impact of recent events without significant damage.
