Altcoin Market Lags as Bitcoin Stabilizes Above $58,000
Despite Bitcoin's recent stability above $58,000, the broader altcoin market remains bearish. Only 29 of the top 100 coins are trading above their respective 50-day simple moving averages (SMA), a sign that bullish momentum is lacking.
This contrasts with the Nasdaq 100 breadth, where 47 stocks are trading above their 50-day SMAs. The stability seen in Bitcoin since its selloff stalled on June 1 has yet to spill over into the wider crypto market.
Ether's recent outperformance of Bitcoin has raised hopes that other coins may soon catch a strong bid. However, analysts caution that the outcome depends on this week's Federal Reserve interest-rate decision and cues about future interest rates.
Matthew Ryan, head of market strategy at Ebury, noted that 'the bar for a hawkish surprise that meaningfully boosts the dollar is high.' This implies that any interest rate hike would be a significant event, but may not necessarily impact Bitcoin's price. Analysts also point to upcoming US core PCE inflation and GDP data as potential drivers of volatility.
