Altcoin Market Surges 24%, Fueling Speculation of Early Altseason
The altcoin market has seen a significant surge in recent days, with its total market capitalization increasing by over 24% in just three days. This marks a potential turning point for the sector, as it pushes 'Total2', a measure of the total cryptocurrency market capitalization excluding Bitcoin, back above $1 trillion.
According to CryptoQuant contributor Darkfost, the influx of funds into altcoins between August 19th and August 22nd was substantial, with $215 billion flowing in. This sudden increase in liquidity has led many analysts to speculate that an 'altseason' may be underway.
Technical indicators also support this notion, as 56% of altcoins listed on Binance have now moved above their 200-day moving average (200-DMA). This is a significant shift from the bear market that has persisted since November 2025, during which around 80-85% of altcoins traded below this key long-term trend gauge.
Darkfost attributes the recent rally to comments made by President Donald Trump, who mentioned the possibility of large-scale US Bitcoin purchases and urged Congress to pass the CLARITY Act. While this has led to a boost in liquidity for altcoins, investors should remain cautious as the market has entered overbought territory and may require a short-term correction.
