Altcoin Rally Falters: Ethereum, Solana, and Ripple Take a Hit
The altcoin market has seen a significant downturn after its August rally. Ethereum ($ETH) dropped around 2% despite recent bullish developments, including the addition of 28,086 $ETH to Bitmine's treasury, which now accounts for nearly 4.9% of Ethereum's total supply.
Additionally, Spot $ETH ETFs saw inflows totaling $218 million. Vitalik Buterin proposed EIP-8141, aiming to simplify stablecoin transactions by reducing users' need to hold $ETH specifically for gas fees.
Solana ($SOL) also fell 4% despite the activation of its Transaction V1 upgrade, which enhances its ability to handle larger and more complex DeFi transactions. Meanwhile, DeFi Development Corp. raised $11 million to purchase $SOL, potentially adding institutional demand.
Other altcoins experiencing a decline include Ripple's XRP, Binance Chain ($BNB), and Jupiter's JUP, which fell 1.5%, 0.7%, and 4.6% respectively.
