Altcoin Rally Fizzles as Ethereum and Solana Fall Amid Institutional Weakness
The altcoin market has lost steam following its August rally. Ethereum (ETH) fell by about 2% despite several bullish developments, including Bitmine adding 28,086 ETH to its treasury, bringing it close to 4.9% of the total supply. Additionally, Spot ETH ETFs saw inflows of $218 million.
However, the decline in Ethereum's price was not isolated, as other altcoins such as Solana (SOL) and Aptos (APT) also fell by 4% and 6.4%, respectively. Even with the Transaction V1 upgrade improving its ability to handle larger and more complex DeFi transactions, Solana's price dropped.
On the other hand, some altcoins managed to surge in value during this period. Tron (TRON) gained 2.7% due to Canary Capital launching TRXS, the first spot-staked TRON ETF. Aptos also saw a significant increase of 6.4%, driven largely by Bitwise filing an S-1 for a potential spot Aptos ETF.
The altcoin season index remains at 40, indicating that the market is still leaning towards Bitcoin (BTC) season rather than altcoin season. Meanwhile, Bitcoin dominance stands at 59.29%, up 0.18% from previous levels.
