Altcoin Rally Ignites as Bitcoin Breaks Key Resistance
The cryptocurrency market is experiencing a broad-based rally, with Bitcoin leading the charge. The total crypto market cap has jumped to $2.8 trillion, up 3.9% over the past 24 hours, as Bitcoin surged roughly 5% to break above $81,000. This move has triggered a wave of short liquidations across the market, with roughly $140 million in crypto shorts being wiped out within 60 minutes.
While Bitcoin's price increase is notable, altcoins are outperforming it significantly. Zcash has surged 17.7% in 24 hours and 20% over the week to trade at $943.48, with volume more than doubling to $750 million. Other altcoins such as XRP, Solana, Cardano, Dogecoin, BNB, Chainlink, and Hyperliquid have also posted double-digit gains.
Crypto trader Michaël van de Poppe points out that when Bitcoin stalls within a range, momentum tends to rotate into altcoins. With Bitcoin now breaking decisively higher rather than stalling, this rotation appears to be accelerating rather than pausing.
