Altcoin Rotation: Is Speculative Capital Rotating Away From Bitcoin?
Bitcoin's recent struggle to gain momentum has created an opportunity for other cryptocurrencies to shine. Dogecoin, in particular, has been making waves, rising nearly 3% on August 12 to just above $0.07 while Bitcoin slipped toward $63,700.
This divergence raises the question of whether speculative capital is starting to rotate away from Bitcoin and back into altcoins. Whale accumulation has picked up, with large DOGE addresses increasing their balances by around 180 million tokens during the preceding pullback, according to Santiment data cited by AMBCrypto and KuCoin.
The derivatives market may also be contributing to Dogecoin's strong performance. DOGE futures open interest climbed to approximately $1.21 billion by August 13, up from roughly $930 million in late June, making speculative interest in Dogecoin clearly alive.
However, the rally did not hold cleanly, with DOGE falling back toward $0.07 and down almost 3% on the day by August 13. This prevents the initial move from being treated as proof of a durable trend.
