Altcoin Rotation Shifts Focus to ETH, XRP, SOL Amid Growing Institutional Interest
The crypto market is experiencing a fresh altcoin rotation, driven by institutional investors' growing interest in select tokens. Ethereum (ETH), Ripple (XRP), and Solana (SOL) are leading this trend.
Ethereum currently holds the top spot among institutional altcoins, with strong ETF inflows and corporate purchases reinforcing its appeal. U.S. spot Ether ETFs attracted around $697 million during the week ending August 21, while ETF assets climbed towards $14.3 billion. Weekly trading volume reached about $6.9 billion during the same period.
Ripple's XRP has also emerged as a major beneficiary of this rotation, gaining almost 40% during the week ending August 21. Despite recent price weakness, institutional demand remains strong for XRP, with U.S. investment products attracting around $40 million in the latest week.
Solana (SOL) is another leading institutional alternative among major Layer 1 networks, with U.S. spot Solana ETFs attracting more than $1 billion since October 2025. Major financial firms such as Bitwise, Fidelity, VanEck, and Franklin Templeton now offer exposure through Solana products.
