Altcoin Rotation: Traders Look Beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum

As of July 31, Bitcoin and Ethereum both experienced slight gains. The price of Bitcoin rose by 0.29% to approximately $64,145.86, while Ethereum traded near the $1,900 to $1,920 range before briefly dipping below $1,900.

The market dominance of BTC and ETH slipped slightly, indicating that traders may be looking at altcoin rotation. However, this shift in dominance is not enough to declare an 'altseason.'

While Bitcoin remains the anchor for the market, Ethereum's position is more complex due to its role as a smart-contract asset and major institutional focus. Traders are now watching the broader ecosystem of Ethereum, including Layer 2s, ETF flows, stablecoins, DeFi revenue, mainnet fees, and competition from faster chains.

The altcoin market has become more selective, with traders favoring stronger narratives over generic price charts. Real-world assets, stablecoin infrastructure, DeFi fee switches, AI compute, exchange-linked tokens, and major ecosystem upgrades are attracting more attention than ever before.
