Altcoin Season Index at 57: Market in Transition with Neither Bitcoin Nor Altcoins Dominant
The cryptocurrency market is showing mixed signals as CoinMarketCap's Altcoin Season Index currently stands at 57. This neutral-to-slightly-altcoin-friendly environment indicates that neither Bitcoin nor altcoins have claimed clear dominance.
The index measures how many of the top 100 coins by market capitalization, excluding stablecoins and wrapped tokens, have outperformed Bitcoin over the past 90 days. A reading above 75 would signal a strong altcoin season, while below 25 would indicate Bitcoin dominance.
Currently, only about 57% of the top 100 coins have outperformed Bitcoin in that timeframe, suggesting selective opportunities rather than broad altcoin rallies. Historically, altcoin seasons have been characterized by increased risk appetite, with capital flowing from Bitcoin into smaller-cap digital assets.
