Altcoin Volumes Plummet 50% Amid Year-End Holiday Lull
The year-end holiday lull has seen a significant drop in altcoin trading volumes, reaching a 50% decline compared to last year's holiday season. According to data from Santiment released on December 30, major cryptocurrencies such as Ethereum, Solana, Cardano, and Dogecoin have recorded less than half their weekly trading volumes compared to late 2024.
The analytics firm attributed the drop to flat price movement and year-end holidays pulling traders away from markets. This decline is seen as a reflection of weaker short-term interest rather than panic selling.
Social media discussions about Bitcoin have also fallen since mid-November, with Oro Crypto noting that the current environment resembles exhaustion rather than fear. The firm further added that major cycle peaks typically coincide with heavy retail participation, which remains absent in this market.
