Altcoin Volumes Plummet 50% as Year-End Holiday Lull Takes Hold

Year-end holiday lull has taken its toll on altcoin trading volumes, which have dropped by 50% since last year's holiday season. This decline marks the quietest stretch for digital asset markets since December 2024.

Data from Santiment shows that Ethereum, Solana, Cardano, and Dogecoin are now recording less than half their weekly trading volumes compared to late 2024.

Santiment attributed this drop to flat price movement and year-end holidays pulling traders away from markets. The firm said the decline reflects weaker short-term interest rather than panic selling.

Bitcoin's social dominance has dropped to low single-digit territory, according to Oro Crypto data. The current environment resembles exhaustion rather than fear, with major cycle peaks typically coinciding with heavy retail participation that remains absent.
