Altcoin Volumes Plunge by Half Amid Year-End Holiday Lull
Altcoin trading volumes have taken a significant hit during the year-end holiday lull. Data from Santiment shows that major cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Cardano, and Dogecoin are experiencing half the activity seen during last year's holiday season.
The decline marks the quietest stretch for digital asset markets since December 2024, with flat price movement and year-end holidays likely contributing to the drop in trading activity. According to Santiment, this decline reflects weaker short-term interest rather than panic selling.
Bitcoin's social dominance has dropped to low single-digit territory, with Oro Crypto noting that the current environment resembles exhaustion rather than fear. The firm also pointed out that major cycle peaks typically coincide with heavy retail participation, which is currently absent.
