Altcoins Ready to Roar: Analyst Sees Largest Bull Run in History
Matthew Hyland, an analyst, believes that the altcoin market may be on the verge of its largest bull run ever. According to his charts, smaller cryptocurrencies are gaining ground against Bitcoin and traditional risk assets.
The key gauges that broke out of year-long downtrends include ETH, Total 2, Total 3, and OTHERS, which tracks smaller tokens outside the top 10.
Hyland questioned whether the moves were simply a 'bear market rally', but then concluded that it's possible for the altcoin market to be entering a new phase of relative strength.
The ratio of OTHERS.D/SPX has been falling for years, but is now near its lower end. This comparison with the overbought reading in 2017 suggests that the current setup could be the beginning of a larger altcoin cycle.
As evidence, Hyland points to increased trading activity, with altcoin perpetual futures open interest overtaking Bitcoin's for the first time since December 2024.
