Altcoins Set for August Showdown as Major Catalysts Emerge
The cryptocurrency market may be uncertain, but August is shaping up to be an exciting month for altcoins. One of the most anticipated upgrades is on the Solana network, which will begin rolling out Agave 4.2 client from August 17. This upgrade will bring faster block times, reduced rent costs by 90%, larger transaction sizes, and increased block capacity.
Solana's Alpenglow consensus system is also being tested, aiming to achieve transaction finality of around 150 milliseconds. However, on-chain analyst Ali Martinez notes that the number of wallets holding at least 0.1 SOL has dropped 5% over the past two weeks, signaling weaker participation from smaller Solana holders.
Bittensor (TAO) is another altcoin gaining attention due to growing institutional interest in decentralized AI. Both Grayscale and Bitwise have ETF filings tied to TAO under SEC review, with August being a crucial period for updates. Analyst Michaël van de Poppe expects Bittensor to rally above $250 within the next 4-6 weeks.
