AMC vs Robinhood: Feud Erupts Over Tokenized Stock Trading
AMC Entertainment CEO Adam Aron has launched a scathing attack on Robinhood over its AMC-linked Stock Token, calling it 'contemptible' and demanding that trading cease. Aron claims that the token is not authorized or endorsed by AMC and raises concerns about investor rights and corporate control.
Aron argues that tokenized exposure can weaken companies' control over capital raising, confuse investors about shareholder rights, and deepen distrust in financial markets. He has instructed securities counsel to examine whether AMC can force Robinhood to stop trading the tokens.
Roninhood CEO Vlad Tenev fired back with a four-word response: 'What's the concern?' The company's Chief Legal Officer, Dan Gallagher, retorted by saying that they know 'a little something about U.S. securities laws' and challenged Aron to send his lawyers for education.
The dispute has split observers over whether Aron is raising a genuine securities-law concern or attacking a structure that already sits outside traditional share ownership. Some critics argue that the product is not offered to U.S. residents and that AMC itself did not issue the token.
