AMD Data Center Sales Soar Past Expectations
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is on track to exceed its ambitious $100 billion revenue target in data center sales by two years. According to AMD CEO Lisa Su, the company would hit this milestone by 2030, but recent Q1 2026 numbers show it's likely to happen much sooner. The data center division brought in a record-breaking $5.78 billion in revenue for the quarter, representing a significant 57% jump compared to the same period last year.
The growth is largely due to major deals with OpenAI and Meta, which have placed AMD at the forefront of the AI infrastructure buildout. Su's original thesis was based on accelerating AI spending and the company's Instinct MI series GPUs and EPYC CPUs capturing a substantial share of this market.
While the shift from proof-of-work to proof-of-stake has largely removed consumer-grade graphics processing units (GPUs) from cryptocurrency mining, AMD still maintains a programmable Security Crypto Engine designed for cryptographic applications. The company also has a tokenized equity product tied to its performance called AMDON.
