AMD Ryzen AI Moderates Voice Chat in Real-Time with Zero Latency

AMD's Ryzen AI processors have made significant strides in gaming, particularly in voice chat moderation. The company has developed CtrlVox, a plugin for Unreal Engine that uses the Neural Processing Unit (NPU) integrated into Ryzen AI chips to filter toxic voice chat in real-time.

The technology eliminates latency and privacy risks associated with cloud-based solutions, allowing developers to manage in-game communication directly on the player's device. According to AMD, moderation decisions are processed in just 700 milliseconds with a modest 120MB memory footprint.

CtrlVox demonstrated its capabilities at Unreal Fest Chicago 2026, integrated into a custom multiplayer game called Vicious Mockery. Players experienced seamless moderation without any perceivable impact on gameplay, highlighting the practical viability of on-device AI in gaming.
