AmericanFortress Unveils Quantum-Safe Crypto Wallet Protection Without Fund Migration
AmericanFortress has proposed a cryptographic scheme to protect existing cryptocurrency wallets from future quantum attacks without requiring users to move funds or change wallet addresses.
The company's proposal, published in a technical paper, uses zero-knowledge proofs derived from a wallet's original seed phrase instead of replacing the elliptic curve cryptography underlying existing wallets.
This approach allows participating nodes to verify those proofs while users continue signing transactions with their existing keys.
AmericanFortress estimates that up to $470 billion in Bitcoin could be vulnerable to quantum attacks if sufficiently powerful quantum computers become available, citing a recent Bloomberg analysis.
The company is not the only one developing post-quantum protections for cryptocurrency wallets; Freedom Factory has unveiled PQ1, a post-quantum hardware wallet designed for Ethereum and other Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible networks.
