Ancient Bitcoin Wakes Up: 600 BTC Transferred After 16 Years
A significant movement of Bitcoin has been spotted on the blockchain, sparking interest in the cryptocurrency community. According to Whale Alert, a service that tracks blockchain activity, 600 BTC was transferred across 12 mining block rewards from around 2010.
The value of this stash at current prices is tens of millions of dollars. However, an analysis by Whale Alert suggests that this movement does not belong to Satoshi, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin.
Each of the 12 blocks dates back to roughly 2010, when mining could be done on a regular laptop and the price hovered between fractions of a penny and a few dollars. The transfer raises eyebrows due to its duration of dormancy - sixteen years followed by a sudden movement.
This is not an isolated incident, as similar movements have been observed throughout 2026. In September, seven addresses tied to early miners moved a combined 350 BTC, valued at approximately $28 million at the time.
