Ancient Bitcoin Wallets Stir, Transferring $15.73 Million in Summer Spike
A recent wave of long-dormant Bitcoin wallets has been stirring, with four ancient wallets transferring a combined $15.73 million between August 29 and September 4.
Blockchain analytics firm Galaxy Research tracked these movements, noting that the wallets had been inactive for many years, with some coins not moved since as far back as 2011.
Among the oldest wallets was one holding 146.06 BTC, equivalent to roughly $11.31 million, which remained untouched since November 2013 and achieved a remarkable gain of nearly 12,902% from an estimated acquisition price of $595 per bitcoin.
The other significant transactions involved a wallet containing 40 BTC, dormant since November 2011, now worth approximately $3.09 million, with the original investment believed to be around $120 and a gain of 2,571,899% over nearly 15 years.
