Andreessen Seeks Permanent Crypto Regulatory Framework
Andreessen Horowitz co-founder Marc Andreessen is calling for a permanent US regulatory framework to govern the crypto market. In an August 1, 2026 podcast conversation with a16z partner Chris Dixon, he argued that treating crypto regulation as a temporary patch job has not worked.
The CLARITY Act, currently working its way through the Senate after clearing the House, is designed to establish federal oversight of crypto markets. The bill would assign oversight responsibilities to both the SEC and CFTC, introduce disclosure requirements, anti-fraud provisions, and governance rules for crypto exchanges.
Andreessen framed the need for this kind of structure in historical terms, drawing a parallel to how securities laws created the foundation for modern capital markets. Regulatory ambiguity benefits offshore entities who operate outside US jurisdiction, he argued.
