Andreessen Warns Developer Liability Provision Threatens Crypto Industry

Andreessen Horowitz's (a16z) co-founder Marc Andreessen has expressed strong opposition to a proposed developer-liability provision in the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, or CLARITY Act. The provision would hold developers accountable for how their code is used in the future.

In an interview on a16z's crypto podcast, Andreessen described this provision as a 'kill shot' for the industry. He argued that holding developers accountable for misuse of their code would make open-source software development legally unworkable.
