Ankr Bolsters sBTC Security on Stacks Layer 2 Network
Decentralized infrastructure provider Ankr has joined the sBTC signer set on Stacks, adding another layer of security to Bitcoin-pegged transactions on the Layer 2 network.
sBTC is a token that's pegged 1:1 to Bitcoin, and its signer set functions like a multi-signature committee that keeps the peg honest. The current signer set consists of 14 operators who collectively approve the minting and movement of sBTC, with at least 10 signatures required for transactions.
Ankr's participation in the signer set aligns with the Stacks Foundation's 'Best and the Brightest' campaign, which highlights key institutional supporters of sBTC. Ankr Co-Founder and CEO Chandler Song framed the partnership as part of a broader push to extend Bitcoin's utility beyond simple value transfer.
The sBTC signer model is designed to evolve over time, with plans to integrate signer selection with Stacks' Proof of Transfer consensus mechanism, which itself is anchored to Bitcoin's own blockchain.
