Apple Fails to Quickly Remove Impersonating App Store App: DeFiLlama Founder

Share

The founder of DeFiLlama, 0xngmi, recently took to X (formerly Twitter) to express frustration with Apple's handling of a fake app that impersonated their platform on the App Store.

According to 0xngmi, despite multiple reports to Apple's abuse and trademark complaint channels, the fake app remained available for months before it was finally removed.

The founder stated that the app not only misled users but also posed a potential threat as it could be used to steal funds. It wasn't until 0xngmi downloaded the app, connected a wallet containing a small amount of funds, and confirmed that the app attempted to steal those funds that Apple took action.

The incident highlights concerns within the cryptocurrency community about malicious apps on official stores. Despite review processes, fraudulent applications can slip through, putting users at risk who may not be able to distinguish between legitimate and fake services.
