Apple Trains China-Specific AI Model with Alibaba, Eyes Strategic Market Access
Apple has made significant strides in China's AI market by training its own model in collaboration with Alibaba. This development marks a turning point for Apple, allowing it to operate a proprietary AI model in China, a first for a foreign company.
The new AI model, associated with Qwen and Baidu technology, will equip iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Vision Pro devices for the Chinese market. This move comes as Apple has been granted permission by the Cyberspace Administration of China to register its generative AI service.
However, this achievement coexists with growing trade tensions between the US and China. The US government recently ordered Apple to stop buying memory chips made in China, highlighting the delicate balance Apple must maintain between its relationships with both countries.
