Aptos Activates Circle's CCTP V2 for Lightning-Fast USDC Transfers
Aptos has integrated Circle's Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol V2 (CCTP V2), upgrading its USDC infrastructure to settle transfers in seconds instead of minutes. The integration, which went live on August 26, connects Aptos to nine other blockchains, including Ethereum and Solana, through over 90 capital-efficient transfer routes.
CCTP V2 uses a burn-and-mint mechanism to transfer USDC between chains. When a user sends USDC from one chain to Aptos, the tokens are burned on the source chain and minted as native USDC on Aptos. This eliminates the need for wrapped tokens or IOUs in bridge contracts.
The integration also enables 'programmable hooks,' which allow developers to attach automated on-chain actions to incoming USDC transfers. This means users can set up rules, such as automatically depositing incoming USDC into a lending protocol or swapping it into another asset.
