Aptos Labs Unveils Shelby to Tackle AI Infrastructure Bottleneck
Aptos Labs has developed Shelby, a high-performance decentralized object storage protocol designed to tackle AI's biggest infrastructure bottleneck. The protocol was unveiled on June 24 in partnership with Jump Crypto.
The main issue with current AI infrastructure is the data layer, which remains expensive and slow despite advancements in compute power and model intelligence. Shelby aims to address this problem by providing sub-second read speeds, built-in monetization for data providers, and egress costs roughly 70% lower than traditional cloud services.
The protocol uses Aptos's low-latency transaction finality to keep retrieval times competitive with centralized alternatives. It also supports pay-per-view content distribution, decentralized application backends, and integration with existing Web3 infrastructure.
