ARB Price Drops Amidst Upcoming Token Unlock and Risk-Averse Altcoin Market
Arbitrum (ARB) is experiencing a decline in value due to an upcoming token unlock and a generally risk-averse altcoin market. According to CoinMarketCap, ARB has dropped by approximately 3.9% over the last 39 hours.
The main driver of this price drop is the imminent token unlock on August 16, 2026, when around 92.65 million ARB worth $7.2 million will be released into the market. This represents about 1.61% of the current total supply. The team and advisors are set to receive approximately 56.13 million ARB, while investors will get 36.52 million ARB.
The token unlock is seen as a potential source of short-term volatility and selling pressure for ARB and other tokens with similar unlocks in the same window. Additionally, 'whale distribution' has already begun ahead of the unlock, with wallets holding between 1 million to 10 million ARB reducing their share of supply from 32.15% to 31.74% between August 3 and August 10.
The broader altcoin market is also contributing to ARB's decline, with a risk-off sentiment prevailing. The total crypto market cap has declined by about 0.8% over the last 24 hours, with the altcoin market cap down around 0.5%. Arbitrum (ARB) is trading as a high-beta name in this environment.
