Arc Blockchain Launches with Traditional Finance Giants as Validators

Circle's Arc blockchain is set to launch on September 16, marking an important milestone in the development of stablecoin infrastructure. The validator list for Arc includes some notable names from traditional finance, including BlackRock, Visa, Mastercard, and DTCC. This is a departure from the typical crypto project roadmap, which often features exchanges and DeFi funds.

Circle's Arc blockchain uses USDC as its native token for gas fees, rather than a volatile token. It also boasts sub-second finality, making it an attractive option for institutions that require fast settlement times. The chain is designed to be EVM-compatible, allowing developers to build on top of it with ease.

One of the key features of Arc is its permissioned Proof-of-Authority validator set, which uses known institutions to produce and validate blocks. This approach may not satisfy crypto purists who value decentralization as a principle, but it could appeal to banks and payment companies that want blockchain settlement without giving up control.

Circle has already started working with its partner network to deploy applications on the Arc chain. BlackRock is planning to use the chain for its tokenized Treasury fund, while DTCC is working on enabling tokenization of DTC-custodied assets on Arc. However, it's worth noting that this is not a permissionless consensus model like Bitcoin or Ethereum.
