Ares Eyes $3.6 Billion-Led Leonard Green & Partners Acquisition
Ares Management Corporation is reportedly in talks to acquire Leonard Green & Partners, a move that would be a significant consolidation play in the private equity industry. The two firms have collaborated on several deals in the past, including the acquisition of Press Ganey and Convergint Technologies.
Leonard Green has been on a fundraising tear, announcing its inaugural Sage Equity Investors fund in January 2026, which raised over $3.6 billion. Ares Management, listed on the NYSE under the ticker ARES, has built itself into a global alternative investment powerhouse spanning credit, private equity, real estate, and infrastructure.
The acquisition of Leonard Green would fill gaps in the Ares portfolio and immediately expand its PE footprint. For Ares shareholders, a deal of this nature would likely be viewed as strategically accretive, adding fee-paying assets under management. The combination of the two firms would also provide access to permanent capital vehicles, broader distribution capabilities, and institutional infrastructure that standalone firms increasingly struggle to maintain independently.
The report has not been confirmed by either firm, but if consummated, it would be a significant move in the private equity industry where scale increasingly determines survival. The largest pools of institutional capital in alternatives remain firmly anchored in conventional asset classes, with neither Ares nor Leonard Green having any meaningful exposure to digital assets or crypto tokens.
