Argentina Becomes Latin America's Crypto Leader
Argentina's crypto adoption has reached an impressive milestone, with approximately one in five people using digital assets. This puts the country among Latin America's most active markets for cryptocurrency.
The data from a16z crypto reveals that stablecoins account for a significant 94% of peso-denominated crypto trading, indicating a strong preference for dollar-based savings.
This trend is not surprising given Argentina's history with financial crises and capital controls. The country's 2001-2002 financial crisis led to a loss of confidence in the peso, and later restrictions reinforced demand for alternatives providing access to dollars beyond the official financial system.
