Argentina Stablecoin Trading Volume Hits New High
Argentina's peso-denominated crypto trading volume is heavily skewed towards stablecoins, according to recent data from Artemis. The research shows that 94% of all trading volume goes into stablecoins, making them the most popular choice among major fiat currencies.
This dominance is not surprising given Argentina's history of households saving in U.S. dollars rather than relying entirely on pesos. After currency controls returned in 2019, individuals were limited to $200 in official monthly dollar purchases, and additional eligibility requirements blocked some residents from accessing dollars through official channels.
Stablecoins provided an alternative route to dollar exposure, allowing users to purchase USDT or USDC through exchanges and peer-to-peer markets. Despite the growth of digital-dollar usage during an unusual inflation cycle, stablecoin news suggests that converting pesos into crypto increasingly means moving funds into dollar-linked tokens.
